Broadway | 1981 | MP3 (untracked)
Peter Firth (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), Ian McKellen (Antonio Salieri), Amy Irving (Constanze Weber), Caris Corfman (Katherina Cavalieri), Linda Robbins (Teresa Salieri), Nicholas Kepros (Joseph II, Emperor of Austria), Louis Turenne (Baron van Swieten), Russell Gold (Guiseppe Bonno), Paul Harding (Count Johann Kilian von Strack), Patrick Hines (Count Orsini-Rosenberg), Philip Pleasants (Major Domo), Edward Zang (Ensemble), Gordon Gould (Ensemble), Haskell Gordon (Ensemble), Mark Nelson (Ensemble), Mark Torres (Ensemble), Martin LaPlatney (Ensemble), Michael McCarthy (Ensemble), Michele Farr (Ensemble), Peter Kingsley (Ensemble), Richard Jay-Alexander (Ensemble), Rick Hamilton (Ensemble), Ronald Bagden (Ensemble), Victor Griffin (Ensemble), Warren Manzi (Ensemble)
Notes from other traders: This performance was taped right after Peter Firth replaced Tim Curry and Amy Irving replaced Jane Seymour. I saw both casts and Peter Firth (who also starred in Equus) was as good as Mr Curry and Amy Irving was much better than Ms Seymour. The rest of the original cast remained. This is my favourite recording because of the legendary performance of Ian McKellen. He was extraordinary. It remains one of my favorite performances I’ve ever seen.
Almaviva’s notes: The folder I got this in is named 1980, but it is very probably 1981.

TheOzianCabaret’s (formerly oneshortdaytodefygravity) master
Notes from the master: A very funny (and niche?) comedic and satirical take on Australian politics, especially focusing on the dismissing of the Whitlam government. The summary doesn’t do it justice, I swear - it’s hilarious! No cast board, but also no swing slip in the program, so I’m assuming full cast (which is what I’ve listed). Not for trade except through master. Not for sale. Please do not post ANY part of this recording on ANY social media platform (including, but not limited to TikTok, tumblr, Youtube etc.)

Notes from the master: Preview performance of this lovely production. John Heffernan and the hilarious David Flynn stood out amongst a great cast. Some things didn’t quite go as planned, like a balcony door that refused to fully close and both Katherine Parkinson and John Heffernan ran into some trouble when pretending to hide on stage. All of this much to the hilarity of the audience, which was particularly receptive due to the school class(es) sitting a few rows behind me.

Notes from the master: SCOTUS had overturned Roe v. Wade earlier in the day, thus a huge one-minute standing ovation during Julianne Hough’s line that “safe, affordable healthcare is a basic human right” plus some very loud reactions to a few other moments in the show. A couple times, there was some commotion behind us - I THINK it was a couple who were probably hard of hearing started talking loudly despite being told to be quiet, or something like that. Legit thought there was going to be a fight. But despite that, it was an emotionally charged, sad and angry night in history coinciding with the themes of this show.
