Broadway | October 1997 (Press reel) | MPG | 974.1 MB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Christine Andreas (Marguerite St Just), Terrence Mann (Chauvelin) Notes: Almost 18 minutes of professionally shot footage. Riddle’s notes: Has clips of Madame Guillotine, Believe, Into the Fire, Falcon in the Dive, When I Look At You, Where’s the Girl?, Creation of Man, They Seek Him Here, Only Love, She Was There, You Are My Home, The Duel, and Bows/Into the Fire (Reprise). Definitely has some major gen loss. Sound quality is very nice. Almaviva’s notes: Looking for the original VOBs with smalls. |
Broadway | 27 October 1997 (SP1) (Preview) | VOBs with smalls | 2.52 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Lauri Landry (u/s Marguerite St Just), Terrence Mann (Chauvelin) Riddle’s notes: That is decidedly not Christine Andreas as Marguerite, but it is often traded as such. Comparing the audio that is also from the 2nd preview (which is very likely an audio rip of this video), and assuming that that cast information is accurate, then it’s almost certainly Lauri as Marguerite. |
Broadway | 12 December 1997 (or February 1998) (SP1) | VOBs with smalls | 2.51 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Christine Andreas (Marguerite St Just), Terrence Mann (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: Amazing copy of the OBC that is commonly mislabelled with the wrong date. This has amazing clarity and just all around astonishing, the best Pimpernel capture. Includes a commercial for the show, from the master. A- Almaviva’s notes: I received this in trade as 12 December 1997, but it is the same video dated February 1998 as below, just a much lower generation copy (see screenshots for comparison) and without the 1998 Easter Bonnet skit. I do not seem to see the commercial other people mention, although there is a shot of the programme (?) and the marquee before the show starts which does not seem to appear in the February 1998 video. Therefore I am not sure which is the correct date. |
Broadway | February 1998 (or 12 December 1997) (SP1) | VOBs with smalls | 2.59 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Christine Andreas (Marguerite St Just), Terrence Mann (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: Good camera work, some zooms. Only decent full video of SP1 known to exist. Video includes the 1998 Easter Bonnet skit after the show. A. Almaviva’s notes: This video has been commonly (mis)labelled as 12 December 1997, but is the same video as the one I have above, give or take a few things (see notes above), and just much worse in quality. Therefore I am not sure which is the correct date. |
Broadway | 9 March 1999 (SP2) | VOBs with smalls | 2.72 GB
Bryan Batt (s/b Sir Percy Blakeney), Rachel York (Marguerite St Just), Rex Smith (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: Nice view of the stage. There are some close-ups. Sound is very good, but the color gets a little screwy beginning during the spelling scene, but it does clear up for Act II. Good video. 2nd generation video B+. |
Broadway | 29 & 30 May 1999 (SP2) | VOBs with smalls | 5.43 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Rachel York (Marguerite St Just), Rex Smith (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: Mainly the 29th, but “The Riddle” and the curtain call from the 30th are spliced in nicely; also has highlights footage from the 30th. |
National Tour (New Haven, CT) | 4 March 2000 (SP4) (Matinee) | VOBs with smalls | 2.31 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite St Just), William Michals (Chauvelin) Major’s master Almaviva’s notes: First generation video. Different from the evening video which is the more common of the two shows and shot between a lot of heads and relying on zooms. Regardless, there are some lovely close-ups of Douglas Sills. |
National Tour (New Haven, CT) | 4 March 2000 (SP4) (Evening) | VOBs with smalls | 6.58 GB (Two-disc version)
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite St Just), William Michals (Chauvelin) Major’s master Almaviva’s notes: First generation video. Until recently I had no idea a two-disc version of this evening video existed and not only is it larger in size and resolution, it looks sharper with bolder, brighter colours compared to the one-disc version which suffers some generation loss and looks a little washed out. |
National Tour (Los Angeles, CA) | 16 June 2000 (SP4) | VOBs with smalls | 4.17 GB
Douglas Sills (Sir Percy Blakeney), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite St Just), William Michals (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: The picture is very good with some nice close-ups, though they are not extreme. Funny show! Doug is in ad-lib heaven! Includes about 45 minutes of highlights from 9 June 2000, also in Los Angeles. |
National Tour (Nashville, TN) | 27 June 2000 (SP4) | VOBs with smalls | 3.96 GB
Robert Patteri (Sir Percy Blakeney), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite St Just), William Michals (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: A nice show, interesting to see someone else as Percy (apart from Ron Bohmer). Robert does a great job. Some cover ups, some wash out, but very enjoyable. A- |
National Tour (Boston, MA and Philadelphia, PA) | 1 & 2 August (Boston) and 5 November 2000 (Philadelphia) (SP4) | VOBs with smalls | 2.24 GB
D. B. Bonds (u/s Sir Percy Blakeney [1 August/5 November 2000])/Robert Patteri (Sir Percy Blakeney [2 August 2000]), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite St Just), William Michals (Chauvelin) Notes from other traders: SP4: 8/1/00 ~ Boston, MA and 11/5/00 ~ Philadelphia, PA and 8/2/00 ~ Boston, MA D. B. Bonds (u/s), William Paul Michals, Amy Bodnar Boston highlights, about 30 minutes long; slight obstruction along the bottom every now and then; some spotlight washout and only minor zooming. Philadelphia highlights, about 20 minutes long; slight obstruction along the bottom, but it's almost completely unnoticeable B+ Also on the same disc. SP4: 8/2/00 ~ Boston, MA Robert Patteri, William Paul Michals, Amy Bodnar 70 minutes of highlights; nice video with good sound and excellent picture; wish there was more of it A |
Performance Riverside (Riverside, CA) | September 2001 (or 9 October 2001) | Proshot | VOBs only | 3.41 GB (Larger copy, VOBs only version)
Edward Staudenmayer (Sir Percy Blakeney), Kim Huber (Marguerite St Just), Eric Anderson (Chauvelin), Michelle Lane (Marie Grosholtz), Eric McEwen (Armand St Just) Notes from other traders: House-cam. Directed and choreographed by Grant Rosen (SP4 National Tour swing). Features sets and costumes from the Equity National Tour. Some generational loss and occasional audio “buzz” due to over-copying, but still a great recording. Almaviva’s notes: The folder I got this in is dated “9.10.01” and reading the newspaper reports from the time, it seems like the show didn’t open until late September, so it might possibly be from early October. Same resolution as the with smalls version below and slightly less generation loss though the colours are slightly washed out. |
Performance Riverside (Riverside, CA) | September 2001 (or 9 October 2001) | Proshot | VOBs with smalls | 2.56 GB (Smaller copy, with smalls version)
Edward Staudenmayer (Sir Percy Blakeney), Kim Huber (Marguerite St Just), Eric Anderson (Chauvelin), Michelle Lane (Marie Grosholtz), Eric McEwen (Armand St Just) Almaviva’s notes: Another copy of the Riverside video above but smaller in size and comes with smalls. Slightly more generation loss on this one. |
